Diabetes Management & Mental Health

Written on 07/31/2024

Hello Tribal Community,

Public Health Nursing and the Diabetes Management program want to share a few tips on the importance of taking care of your mental health while having diabetes. Whether you are getting ready for this next upcoming school year with the little ones or are a “grandparent Uber” this could be a very busy time of year for some. Remember to take time for yourself, so you could take care of those you love!

Tips:

  • Setting an alarm to take your medications daily
  • Monitor your blood sugar levels per doctor’s order
  • If the weather permits take a walk
  • Plan for healthy well portioned meals & get adequate sleep
  • Most of all, take time to enjoy the things that bring relaxation and regeneration

Diabetes Self-Management education sessions are available for tribal members, family is welcome to accompany. To set an appointment please call Jacqueline Alvarado, Public Health Nurse at 915-858-1076 EXT: 6196.
